Prepaid Electric Board/Unit Will Be Issued To All Bruneians

December 29, 2011 – 8:42 am

Salam. I support totally 100% the Brunei government of issuing the new prepaid electricity unit /meter/ board for the whole nation to apply in their house/ office /business/ etc. Why? Well to those who like to waste and NEVER think of reservation for the “future”… better think twice before you switch on any electrical appliance or gadget for today to day use.

Many in the country had been using this cheap utility for granted and some even left the “bills” climbing and NOT EVEN BOTHERED to pay at all!! What a shame. I thought we Bruneians are well educated, caring and being responsible in what we do, say or act. Simply because of some naughty individuals, the whole nation gets the treatment and ask to move from post-paid to pre-paid meters. I can’t agree more. Hope that this move will “educate” our people to conserve as well as responsibly use their electricity with care.

Now the amounting un-paid bills from the public as well as from other agencies including and surprisingly BSP, carried the alarms and force the government to take drastic action.

So people, wake up and be a mature and a responsible citizen. Our country can go bankrupt if this kind of bad behavior continues. That is what happen to countries like America, Europe nowadays…burden with bad debts….!!

  2. I agree 101% pmgworld! We ought to be grateful being and living in Brunei. For eg. in Australia, they had started to introduce Carbon Tax for all in terms of using electricity and other natural resources.

Hopefully with the new revised tariff rate by DES (coming soon awaiting endorsement..), we could consume it wisely.

    0 to 600kwh @$0.01
    601 to 2000kwh @$0.08
    2001 to 4000kwh @$0.10
    Above 4001kwh @$0.12

  3. I still don’t understand with this electricity tariff saga.

    Example:

Old Tariff 2011 December is B$1 = 16.67kwh, no matter how much you buy the tariff is still the same flat rate. Not for 2012 tariff.

January 2012 i bought B$200 worth of credit at DES counter, i only got 2820kwh equivalent to B$1 = 14.1kwh.

    February 2012 i bought another B$150 and i got 2320kwh which is B$1 = 15.46kwh.

    March 2012 i bought another B$200 and got 2820kwh which is B$1 = 14.1kwh.

I don’t understand how this thing really work with the calculation. If the usage bit, i don’t really care of it, it all depend on how you consume it. But buying the to-up credit which is i think really ridiculous with the inconsistent rate.

I did ask the DES personnel to explain to me about the inconsistent rate, what they said to me is “they also waiting memo from DES headquarter”.

Can anyone explain to me in details regarding the 1)Usage rate & 2)Buying top-up rate, which i think both rate are not the same and the top-up rate inconsistency.
