MUSLIM MINORITIES IN BURMA
October 29, 2012 – 9:14 amThe history of Rohingya community in Burma goes back to 8th century as they claim to be original settlers of Rakhine (Arakan) province the country while tracing their ancestry to Arab traders.
Bengali Muslims from neighboring Bengal started arriving in Rakhine after King Narameikhla (1430–1434) retained his throne with the help of Sultan of Bengal of that time.
By the UNO and international laws every Rohingya is entitled to Burmese Citizenship.
When the Chinese and Indians who went to Burma on employment and business in the 1940s and 1950s have been given citizenship why not the Rokihgyas who have been living in Burma for many generations
Why do we not consider the generosity and tolerance of a Muslim nation like Malaysia or a Buddhist nation like Thailand.
Take the example of Malaysia which was given independence by Britain in 1957 when it had 40% of its people as immigrants CHINESE and Indians mostly Hindus and Malay Muslim nation gave citizenship to all the Chinese and Indians in spite of the fact that they had been in Malaya for less than 20, 30 years.
Same thing in Thailand in the case of Pattani Muslim minorities of Thailand and same thing in Sri Lanka in the case of Tamil immigrants from India.
For a good example of how a Muslim country behaved, look at Singapore which was a Malay fishing village about 150 years and now occupied and ruled by CHINESE (90% of Singapore’s population)
Singapore a nation that was created by immigrants.
Why go too far?
Are the white Americans the the bumi Putra of American soil?
The problem of Burmese minorities can be solved with compromise, understanding and mutual respect, after all the Rohingyas had been living in Burma for generations.
