Just a couple of weeks ago, some female friends went to a gym in Kuala Belait to workout. Just as they were warming up on the machines, a bald headed man had come up to them and introduced himself. He had been really friendly but the girls obviously were reluctant to respond to him as they felt quite uncomfortable with his 'deliberate approach'. I am not saying that striking up conversations with people in a shared environment is a crime but it's better not to disturb and annoy female gym-goers unnecessarily. They get upset. ...

Hi, I am wondering whether there is any place where I can donate used Exercise book, text book, Clothing, home display items in Belait? I feel that it's such a waste just to throw off all the items but keeping it at home and storing it away can become quite inconvenient if it started to piles up. ...

I bought a plasma LG TV at an electronic shop located near the Hua Ho in Gadong a few week ago. After receiving the TV to my house, I notice a lot of problem, like burn-in and vertical line on the screen. So when I returned to the shop, I found out that the shop had sold me the TV that was on display, and not the brand new. When asked to fix the burn-in problem, they told me it doesn’t cover in the warranty. I am really up set how they do business like this. I will not recommend anyone buying stuff from here anymore. ...

Salam. I support totally 100% the Brunei government of issuing the new prepaid electricity unit /meter/ board for the whole nation to apply in their house/ office /business/ etc. Why? Well to those who like to waste and NEVER think of reservation for the "future"... better think twice before you switch on any electrical appliance or gadget for today to day use.   Many in the country had been using this cheap utility for granted and some even left the "bills" climbing and NOT EVEN BOTHERED to pay at all!! What a shame. I thought we Bruneians are well educated, caring and being responsible in what we do, say or act. Simply because of some naughty individuals, the whole nation gets the treatment and ask to move from post-paid to pre-paid meters. I can't agree more. Hope that this move will "educate" our people to conserve as well as responsibly use their ......

Recently I went to Giant Rimba with my family. I was rather shocked to see how many mini2 booths/stalls are lined up, limiting the walk ways. There are about 3 rows in one walk way. Firstly limiting movement place for the public and secondly, if some fire or emergency were to happen, how are ppl. to run for safety with all these stalls blocking most of the walkways? With small kids and elderly people, in cases of emergency it would lead to stampede due to overcrowding the place with such stalls. I guess the management of Giant or any other such complexes should consider safety of the public and not just profits by renting out more and more stalls. The Fire Dept. personnel in charge of licensing should make a round there or any other complexes that operate such stalls. Safety First. ...

Speaking of Private Company in Brunei Darussalam, everyone can expect to see A LOT OF FOREIGNER rather than Local Bruneian working in the company. i just want to share about a private company which is one of the branch of international company. What i want to say is, the company is not 100% local company. The license is owned by a local Bruneian but the Company itself is manage and owned by foreigner!! Our, manager, supervisors, officers, operators, mechanics and etc are mostly the foreigner..We the local will be put as the lower staff..they don't and wont put us as the important role in the company. the issues are: 1. Local will be given a VERY LOW salary with less benefit compare to the FOREIGNER.foreigner will get BND 2k per person or the least one is $900. but not just that, the foreigner is really pampered by the company, they will get food ......

Why is there no salary scale in the private sector? I mean the most important is the minimum salary scale for the local who work in the private sector?   The oil and gas companies are getting more and more, they gained income from the oil and gas that owned by Brunei Darussalam. Then why?? The local Bruneian who work in this sector are always neglected? Why always the government servants get the benefits?   When can Local Bruneian be taking care of? Really take care of by the labour dept? They collect the salary statistic. But is it acceptable when you have family and kids to take care of but yet your income is $550 only?? ...

First, my congratulation to Ministry of Energy for the various efforts with regards to energy initiatives. Nobody should argue more as what had been approved and to be implemented next year is for the good of Brunei Darussalam in overcoming many social issues and problems such as saving and unemployment. Putting proposals and making decisions are tough jobs. You need relevant information, but more important are doing research and reviewing on the current issues and problems. You cannot just bringing in the thinking of experiences from previous working experiences. Each scenario is different from one another. For example, the ways in Government are very different to the company’s ways. However, if we are to look back on such initiatives, it’s all tied up to the issues of leadership and decision-making. One might say that bringing in outsiders (Shell staffs for senior positions) was the best move. Many think that they really make ......

Let me first say that I am a young Bruneian woman and proud. I'm unemployed, but not ashamed. I'm one of at least eight young women who was sacked from my job at the airport, supposedly for theft. I'm not a thief nor were all the other young women sacked. There is a belief that young Bruneians simply will not work, that they display no work ethic. I personally loved my job at the airport selling beautiful perfume giftware and thought I did the right thing. I will not name my employers, its not the right thing to do. To blame us for theft is also not the right thing to do. Just because the owners are so called "well respected" we cannot complain to anyone. The foreign owners were very nice and looked after us. I now understand that many, many $000's of stock is missing and that they believe it was us that stole it and this is very hard for us. Accountability in Brunei is difficult to understand from a young persons point of view. I do not pretend to understand business but I do understand honesty. I love my country but how do I clear my name and that of the other young women? Its also about national pride. The foreigners have been long term visitors to Brunei. They created jobs for Bruneians, not imports. How were they rewarded? by deception and theft. i'm sorry to raise this but what can the average person do to stop corruption? ...

As a Permanent Resident of Brunei of nearly 30 years, I would like to thank the Department of Economic Planning and Development (JPKE), Prime Minister's Office, for introducing a new scheme that gives private sector employees the same opportunities employees in the public sector have in developing themselves in order to become more competitive, professional and marketable. In the past, there were a lot of privileges that were meant just for citizens - from scholarships to overseas trainings to housing and travelling allowances. But now, things are starting to look up for us PRs (Permanent Residents) - from the abolishment of multiple entry visas into Brunei and the new scheme provided by JPKE. It is safe to say that PRs now have a deeper feeling of belonging to the nation. Once again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the relevant authorities for making these improvements. However, I must point out ......

salam my father recently told me that we got rejected from accepting the governtment housing scheme because my mother had a piece of land. i know the requirement states that, one should not own a house or a land. but we have been waiting for more than 15 years to get a house and the government just rejected our request in a day? why cant they consider the the family's well being? my parents tried building a house on that land, but it just so happens that their salary combined together were not enough. they can build one, but with what money are they going to use to feed us every month? all i am saying is that, why cant the government check the family's financial status? a lot of people got more than one house and where's the justice in that? i am very, very disappointed. my dad is in his ......

It is really sad to hear the death of the two cute girls. It was all because this bad-tempered lady was in a hurry to leave for her open house gathering, and she planned to left school during school hours without permission. To make things worst, she didn't even want to admit her fault. Instead she blamed the girls for the accident. How heartless!!! Until now she still does not want to admit her fault. Perhaps one day when she is a mother then she will know! Amin!! ...
